Police are investigating after several New West Soccer Club storage boxes and their contents were stolen from local parks.

Thieves targeted sports equipment at multiple parks in New West – impacting local kids’ ability to play the beautiful game.

The New Westminster Police Department is asking the public for information or CCTV footage that may help in locating stolen equipment belonging to the New West Soccer Club.

Sometime between March 19 and 27, thieves stole four large steel storage boxes that were being used to store the club’s soccer equipment.

“It’s upsetting to see sports equipment stolen from these parks,” said NWPD Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “It’s not just about the loss of gear, it’s about thieves taking away the ability for youths to play soccer where they’re able to grow and develop their skills.”

Hailey Finnigan, the police department’s communications officer, said the storage boxes were stolen from multiple New Westminster parks.

“The items that were stolen include balls, nets, jerseys, cones, and other soccer related items. The gear is marked with the New Westminster Soccer Club logo,” she said in an email to the Record. “We’re now looking at an approximate value of $15,000 for the gear and the boxes.”

New Westminster police are asking residents living near Glenbrook Middle School and Hume Park to check their CCTV for footage of the thefts. The boxes – which are painted brown and display the New West Soccer Club logo – are about four feet long, two feet deep, and two-and-a-half feet tall.
