Young actors and actresses ages nine to 16 are invited to join a workshop series hosted by the Vagabond Players and Wild Child Theatre this summer.

The workshop series will run 11 sessions, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from July 3 to 25, with a final show on Friday, July 26 at 8 p.m.

Songs in the city

The New Westminster Secondary Chamber Choir, directed by Kelly Proznick, will be the special guest of the Coastal Sound Youth Choir at the Summersong choral festival in Vancouver this weekend.

On Saturday, June 22, the choirs will perform music by Monteverdi and Bruckner, the beloved James Erb arrangement of Shenandoah, music by Vancouver's Rupert Lang, and a new work by emerging Estonian composer Pärt Uusberg.

The show starts at 7: 30 p.m. at Christ Church Cathedral, 690 Burrard St. in Vancouver.

Seniors' standup

For some good, clean humour delivered by the wiser members of our community, head down to The Columbia Theatre at 530 Columbia St. on Sunday, June 23.

The Zoomers and Boomers show is an all-ages laughfest that will start at 2 p.m. with doors opening at 1 p.m.

A funny mystery

Local actor David Quast will be on stage again next month in the Canadian premiere of The Game's Afoot, a comedy-mystery in the same vein as Agatha Christie or Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, written by acclaimed American playwright Ken Ludwig, presented by White Rock's Peninsula Productions and directed by Wendy Bollard. Quast plays a "quirky Watson-like foil to the wanna-be Sherlock Holmes character," according to a press release.

The show runs July 10 to 28 at the Coast Capital Playhouse, at 1532 Johnston Rd. in White Rock.
