A New Westminster man has been charged in connection with a stabbing in downtown New West yesterday.
Wael Elkady was arrested yesterday evening and has now been charged with aggravated assault, the New Westminster Police Department announced in a press release Friday (June 30).
The charge stems from an incident yesterday afternoon, when the NWPD was called to an apartment building in the 400-block of Carnarvon at about 12:10 p.m. They found a woman who had been stabbed and rushed to provide what police described as "life-saving aid" before the woman was transported to hospital.
Police say the suspect and the victim are known to each other, and they do not believe there is any risk to the public.
“Our detectives continue to gather evidence and speak to witnesses.” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Leaver in the press release. “These are complex investigations, and our Major Crime Unit and forensic identification section are working hard to piece together what happened."
