No snow day for you: New Westminster schools open today

Families are reminded to take caution in their travels — but schools remain open.

All School District 40 schools remain open today (Tuesday, Feb. 28) in New Westminster.

Environment Canada issued a new snowfall warning for Metro Vancouver, including New West and Burnaby, shortly after 6 a.m. this morning. — but it won't be enough to stop school.

The New Westminster school district has announced that all schools remain open today.

"Please use caution as you walk, bike or drive, as roads and sidewalks may still be slippery in some places," the district said on its website and social media channels.

How to find out about school closures in SD40

Families are reminded that in the "rare instances" where a school closure is needed, the district will try to announce the decision by 6:30 a.m. or shortly afterwards. Parents and guardians can check in on the situation in a number of ways:

  • via emails sent to parents caregivers who are part of the school messenger system;
  • via notices posted on the school district website;
  • through SD40 social media channels, via Facebook or Twitter; or
  • through school closure announcements on multiple local radio and TV stations, including on CKNW (AM 980), CBC (AM 690/FM 88.1), News 1130-City News (AM 1130), Global TV, Fairchild and BC CTV.
