We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. It runs regularly in our Friday editions.

This week, which includes a long weekend to celebrate Thanksgiving, we have some great sports events and the opening weekend of a comedy at the Bernie Legge Theatre.

Here's our Top 5 for this weekend.

1 Get rocking with the Westcoast Curling Classic at the Royal City Curling Club. The preliminary draws will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, while championship Monday will include the semifinals in the morning and the final at 3 p.m.

The big favourite is Olympic champion Kevin Martin, who's back to defend his title against former world champion and good friend Kevin Koe. Tickets are available at the door.

2 Get cheering for the New Westminster Hyacks on Friday Night Lights at Mercer Stadium. The Hyacks host Carson Graham at 7: 30 p.m. in a Western Conference showdown. The Hyacks are led by running back Aldrin Asunction, linebacker Jordan Chin and lineman Jonathan He. Tickets are available at the door.

3 Get entertained for the opening week of Spirit Level, presented by the Vagabond Players. This comedy by Pam Valentine is directed by Dale Kelly and is a charming and whimsical comedy that answers deep questions such as "Do angels really have wings?" and "Are the pearly gates pearly?"

Shows are at the Bernie Legge Theatre in Queen's Park. Shows run from Oct. 6 to 29 with Tuesday to Saturday shows at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $15, $13 for seniors and $5 for students. Reservations at 604-521-0412 or email reservations@vagabondplay ers.ca.

4 Get rooting on Sunday, Oct. 9 for the Royal City Hyacks community football teams, who are playing at home at Ryall Park in Queensborough. The atoms play the Vancouver Trojans at 10 a.m., the peewees host the Cloverdale Bobcats at 11: 45 a.m. and the junior bantams host the North Surrey Falcons at 1: 30 p.m. Go and enjoy some kids football that's both fun and affordable - free!

5 Get into Thanksgiving. We're all getting a long weekend so that means spending some valuable family time together. If that means picking up your turkey at the local Safeway, IGA or Save-On-Foods, that's great, but you can also support local businesses by picking up your items at your local bakery, corner store or produce outlet.

Have a great Thanksgiving weekend.
