1 Get out and hear Beethoven, as performed by the New Westminster Symphony Orchestra, on stage at Massey Theatre on Sunday, March 4 at 2 p.m. Admission is by donation.
2 Get a behind-the-scenes look at life in the Downtown Eastside, as told through the eyes of New Westminster photographer Gabor Gasztonyi. For five years he photographed residents of the Cobalt, Balmoral, Regent and Sunrise hotels, capturing their private moments in their rooms and on the street of the poorest neighbourhood in Canada. Some of Gasztonyi's photographs, which appeared in his book A Room in the City, have just gone up on display in the reference department of the New Westminster Public Library at 716 Sixth Ave.
3 Get a little bit naughty and have a whole lot of fun at the burlesque benefit that's taking place at Lafflines Comedy Club on Sunday, March 4 from. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the show runs from 8 to 10 p.m. It's a fundraiser for the PACE Society, which helps women in the sex trade. The fundraiser features standup comedy, burlesque and other forms of dancing, prize draws and original art. Tickets range from $15 to $25. For tickets, call Lafflines at 604-525-2262.
4 Get out and skate for free at Moody Park Arena on Saturday, March 3 from 6: 30 to 8 p.m. The free skate is being sponsored by the Sapperton Thrifty Foods. Another free skate is being held on Saturday, March 24. For more information, call the arena at 604-525-5301.
5 Get down to the Amelia Douglas Gallery at Douglas college and check out the Transmutation: Journeys Through Time and Space exhibit that features works by Mary Bennett and Louse Bunn. The gallery is open 10 a.m. to 7: 30 p.m. Monday to Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is free to the gallery that's located on the fourth floor of Douglas College, 700 Royal Ave. The exhibit runs until April 6.
