1Get dog crazy at the 12th annual Doggy Fun Day on Sunday, Aug. 28 between noon and 3 p.m. on the south field at Queen's Park.

The day's events will include the Royal City Rockets dog agility team, doggy displays, prize draws and doggy games ranging from the eggand-spoon race to a threelegged race to a doggy look-alike contest. For more details, email doggyfunday.nw.gmail. com.

2 Get laughing at the newly reopened Columbia Theatre, Home of Lafflines. Owner Barry Buckland has done a masterful job restoring the former Burr Theatre into the newest venue for his comedy club at 530 Columbia St. For more info or to get detailed show information, call 604-525-2262.

3 Get dancing in the square on Friday, Aug. 26 with a dance party. The event's at 7 p.m. at Hyack Square at the foot of Eighth Street and Columbia. The event is weather permitting, so visit www.dancewithmenewwest.com on the day of the event to see if the dancing is going ahead.

4 Get appreciating the landscape paintings by Peter Csizmar, on display at the Gabor Gasztonyi Gallery at 730 12th St.

The opening reception is Saturday, Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. and the exhibit is on display until Sept. 30. Csizmar's works have been exhibited in galleries throughout Europe and North America. For more info, call 778-397-1449.

5 Get composting or rain collecting by buying rain barrels and backyard composters from the engineering works yard at 901 First St.

The facility's open Monday to Friday between 7: 30 a.m. and 4 p.m. and for only $75, you can get a 75 gallon rain barrel, or for only $30, you get an 80 gallon backyard composter. To confirm availability, call 604-526-4691. Cash or cheque is the only accepted payment method.
