We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend.

Whether you want to enjoy some arts and cultural activities, plan a vacation or learn about volunteer opportunities in the Royal City, there's something on the go from Jan. 27 to 29. This weekend, we have:

1 Get active in the com-munity by picking up some ideas about volunteering at the New Westminster Festival of Volunteers.

Groups in need of volunteers will be setting up displays at the festival, which takes place on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 9: 30 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m. at Royal City Centre at 610 Sixth St.

2 Get entertained at the Heritage Grill, which has a range of entertainment options on this weekend's menu.

Friday night features Lache Cercel & The Roma Swing Ensemble (Roma swing), and Saturday night presents some rock and roll with Cruiser.

The Drag Divas Show returns to the backroom on Saturday night, with its first show of the year.

The entertainment continues Sunday, when the Cathy Barrington Trio (jazz) performs at noon, the Celtic Jam takes place at 4 p.m. and wraps up with Indie Sunday with guests. The restaurant is located at 447 Columbia St. in downtown New Westminster.

3 Get to know New Westminster's poet laureate, Candice James, who is having a book launch and signing of her new book, Bridges and Clouds. The event, which will be hosted by Reese McBeth, includes poetography by Janet Kvammen and an open mike segment.

The book launch takes place on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 1: 30 to 3 p.m. at the Heritage Grill's backroom, which is located at 447 Columbia St.

4 Get some travel ideas by attending the Carlson Wagonlit Travel Expo that features travel suppliers covering the four corners of the world.

The travel expo gives people a chance to talk to travel experts, win door prizes, and hear some informative presentations. Featured topics include river cruising, China, Africa, India, adventure and family travel, escorted tours in Europe, small groups luxury touring, small ship luxury cruises and New Zealand and Fiji.

The travel show takes place on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 1 to 4: 30 p.m. at Fraser River Discovery Centre, 788 Quayside Dr. To RSVP, call 604-525-3344.

5 Get informed about Ebooks at New Westminster Public Library, which is holding an Ebook clinic on Saturday, Jan. 28 from 1: 30 to 4: 30 p.m.

Residents are invited to drop in and learn about downloading free Ebooks from the library and ask staff questions pertaining to the technology.

The library will have four Ereaders available for folks to try out. The New Westminster Public Library is located at 716 Sixth Ave.
