We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. This issue, we have a mariachi show, a free life-skills workshop, a

football tournament, an exhibit on the importance of salmon in aboriginal communities and free entertainment in celebration of Canada Day.

1 Improve your interpersonal relations skills on Friday, June 29 at a free lifeskills workshop at New Westminster Public Library from 1 to 4 p.m. The session is conducted in English with Spanish translation available. The library is at 716 Sixth Ave., uptown, and is wheelchair-accessible. For information and registration, call MOSAIC at 604-522-3722 ext. 155.

2 Check out Mariachi Los Dorados show at Heritage Grill Restaurant on Friday, June 29. The traditional Mexican mariachi ensemble has represented Canada in international mariachi competitions. 3 The New Westminster Hyacks high school football team hosts the longest running 7-on-7 passing tournament in the Northwest at Mercer Stadium in a new one-day format. Up to 16 local and U.S. high school football teams compete in noncontact skelly format for great prizes from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. all day Sunday, July 1 at Mercer Stadium.

4 Head to the Queen's Park bandshell on Sunday, July 1 to celebrate Canada Day from 11: 30 a.m. to 3: 30 p.m. The day's entertainment features the Langey Ukulele Ensemble, Chris Hamilton and the Sticky Jam Band, the A Capella Fellas, the Blue Meenies. There will be a break for a formal ceremony and a lunch box auction. There will also be roving entertainers, community display booths and parks and recreation concession with a barbecue. Local dignitaries will be passing out maple leaf cookies and delicious Dare candies.

5 Take a peek at the Faser River Discovery Centre's newest exhibit titled Our Bones Are Made of Salmon, a display celebrating the history of aboriginal salmon fishing and wind drying in the Fraser canyon. The display features stories of aboriginal fishing and replicas of tools. The Fraser River Discovery Centre is at 788 Quayside Dr., open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
