What I love about my neighbourhood

At an open house for the Glenbrooke North neighbourhood in 2008, residents described themselves as "the poorer next door neighbour to Queen's Park," according to a city report. But not every local shares this view, and they wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Here's why they like living in Glenbrooke:. "It's easy access onto the freeway. ... You can get to the SkyTrain. You can pretty well get where you need to go north, south, east or west. I like the people. It's not that densely populated. People still take care of their yards ... there's that neighbourhood feel," says Clarissa Francis, Glenbrooke North Residents' Association president.

"I like living here because I feel comfortable here. The neighbours know me, and I know the neighbours. (Also) anything that is part of living is close at hand. I can walk to the dentist, walk to the doctor, walk to the drugstore. If there is a show going on at Massey Theatre, which I like to help out with, I can walk there. It's convenience with a capital C," says local arts promoter Tony Antonias.

"For us, a sense of community. Glenbrooke seems to be a little more central," says Heidi Clarkson, past-president of the local Chapter of Canadian Parents for French and founder of B2B NOW (Network of Women) New West. "We have young families moving in, and they stay, ... so you kind of grow up together. People tend to stick around."
