The Victoria Hill and Ginger Drive neighbourhoods are forming a new residents association. Back in 2014, from left, Victoria Hill residents Jarin Locey, Paul Densky and Nolan Eddy celebrated the installation of a “no-left-turn” sign, put up at Memorial Drive to stop commuters from cutting through their neighbourhood as a shortcut onto the Pattullo Bridge.

A new residents’ association is getting underway in New Westminster.

The Victoria Hill/Ginger Drive Residents’ Association is hosting its founding meeting on Thursday, March 7 at 7 p.m. in the Carpentry Hall at 245 Francis Way. A notice about the meeting urges anyone with concerns about potential impacts of the Pattullo Bridge replacement project or the Canada Games Pool replacement, future development in Victoria Hill, traffic, safety, parking, bus services, maintenance of parks, open spaces and ravines, and any other issues affecting the neighbourhood’s quality of life to attend.

Mayor Jonathan Cote is the guest at the inaugural meeting, which includes membership registration, adoption of a constitution and bylaws and the election of a board of directors. The draft constitution and bylaws can be viewed at http://bit.ly/VHGDdocs.

Registration begins at 6:30 p.m., with the annual membership fee being $5 per resident or business owner. Attendance is free, but only members can vote.

Anyone who is interested in being on the board of director should email [email protected] by midnight on March 4 and include your name, building you live in (or civic address) and phone number.  It’s expected board members will have to commit about four hours a month to the board, with one general meeting held every other month and one committee meeting monthly.

New Westminster is currently home to numerous residents’ associations. For more information, go to www.newwestcity.ca/discover-new-west/residents-associations.
