A New Westminster man has his cellphone back thanks to some quick police work.

At about 12: 30 a.m. on June 20, the 23-yearold victim was walking in the 600-block of 20th St. when another man allegedly attacked him from behind, punching him in the head, according to a media release from the New Westminster Police Department.

The suspect fled on foot when a "passerby stopped to see what was occurring," the release states.

The passerby helped the victim to a safe place and then called the police and emergency services. The victim was taken to a hospital where he received stitches to one of his ears.

After 10 minutes of searching, police found the suspect in the 1400-block of Sixth Ave. and recovered the cellphone when they arrested the suspect, according to the release.

Surrey resident Scott Andrew Duncan has been charged with robbery and is scheduled to appear in court on July 31 in New Westminster.
