On Saturday, May 25, the fun doesn't stop after the Hyack parade. Uptown Live is happening uptown around Sixth Street and Sixth Avenue, and everyone is invited. Enjoy music, food, family activities, and the City of New Westminster Family Fun Zone. City departments, including the New Westminster Public Library, will be there to inform and entertain. You'll find the city's Fun Zone on Belmont Street.
The first thing you'll notice will be the big vehicles, including a garbage truck, dump truck, backhoe, fire truck and the electrical operations vehicle, otherwise known as the bucket truck. Kids of all ages (adults, too) are welcome to inspect the trucks and maybe climb on a few. An all-time favourite is the Zamboni, which will take a break from cleaning ice so you can inspect it up close. Of special interest, although much smaller, is the city's new 100 per cent electric car.
And, if you haven't seen the city's Emergency Command Vehicle yet, you can step inside and take a look. The telescoping camera will give you a bird's eye view of the surrounding area. There will be lots of fun for the kids, including crafts, face painting, and the chance to jump on the trampoline and run some relay races.
The library will be there to show you what's new as well as introduce you to the new branch in Queensborough.
