New Westminster police weren’t the only ones to receive a “disturbing” phone call on the weekend.
According to a media release, the New Westminster Police Department was one of three departments across the country to receive a phone call from a man claiming he wanted to kidnap and hold a woman – said to be a neighbour in the New West call – against her will.
Manitoba’s Thompson RCMP detachment and another unnamed police department both received three suspicious phone calls, which police are saying all came from the same caller who contacted New Westminster’s non-emergency line on Sunday.
The identity of the caller remains unknown at this time but police have confirmed the same person made all the calls.
Early reports from police suggested the caller lives on Columbia Street, but now police are saying the calls can’t be traced and they aren’t able to determine the location of the caller.
New Westminster police are continuing their investigation. For a transcript of the phone call to New West police, visit www.nwpolice.org/media-releases/2013/09/01/.
The New Westminster Police Department is asking anyone with information on the identity of the caller to call 604-525-5411, Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or email the police department's tip line at [email protected].
