Roads in Queensborough have reopened after a gas leak forced closures for most of the day.

The New Westminster Police Department have confirmed that the following intersections are open to traffic: Ewen Avenue at Howes Street, Jardine and Salter streets and Ewen Avenue and Gifford Street.

Two businesses have been evacuated in Queensborough thanks to a gas leak in the area of Ewen Avenue and Howes Street.

New Westminster police officers and firefighters are at the scene along with Fortis B.C. staff. First responders have closed the intersections of Ewen Avenue and Howes Street, Jardine and Salter streets and Ewen Avenue and Gifford Street until further notice, according to an alert issued by New Westminster Police Department.

No residents have been evacuated at this time.

The New Westminster Fire Department is monitoring the situation. More information is expected.

Police have not provided details about the cause or exact location of the leak.

People are asked to avoid the area for the time being.
