An alleged road rage incident caught on video Thursday afternoon is now under investigation by the New Westminster Police Department.

At about 4 p.m. on April 23, a cyclist, riding in the area of Carnarvon and Fourth streets, got into an argument with a motorist. In a video taken by a witness, the driver is seen yelling at the cyclist. At one point he grabs the bike and tosses it on the ground before getting back into his car.

Police are now investigating the incident after the cyclist filed a complaint with the department.

“It was initially reported to us by a witness as a possible hit and run,” Sgt. Chad Johnston, spokesperson for the New Westminster police, told the Record.

Johnston said there have been no arrests so far in this case and it is under investigation by one of the department’s patrol officers. Police are also looking for the driver’s name and license plate number, he added.

“I think the cyclist felt like the SUV got a little close, they exchanged words and it kind of went from there,” Johnston said.

Investigators are now looking to speak with witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact the New Westminster police at 604-525-5411.
