Westminster Pier Park is off-limits while police investigate an early-morning assault.
About 12:15 a.m. this morning, patrol officers responded to a report of a fight at Westminster Pier Park. While the fight involved two people, police say a large group of teenagers was present at the time.
“The NWPD Major Crime Unit was called in to investigate, and are still in the early stages of determining what led up to this incident happening. However, it appears that it was between two people with a large group present at the time,” said Sgt. Jeff Scott in a press release. “There is no public safety concern.”
According to police, one male was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

“The victim is in stable condition, and our officers continue to search for video surveillance, speak to witnesses, and analyze the scene for any forensic evidence,” Scott said.
New Westminster Police say Pier Park will remain closed until the forensic analysis of the area is completed, which is expected to be about 4 p.m.
“Our Forensic Investigations Section is on scene at Westminster Pier Park due to an incident reported overnight,” stated a Tweet from New Westminster Police. “The park will be open as soon as the scene is processed.”
