Enjoy a free outdoor concert at Queensborough Community Centre bandshell on Aug. 24 from 6 p.m. onwards.

What’s a better way to unwind on a Thursday after work than a free outdoor music concert?

Queensborough Community Centre, along with the City of New Westminster, is bringing the second rendition of their Summer Sounds Concert Series this year — this time, a Hindustani Classical Music concert.

On Thursday, Aug. 24 at 6 p.m., the community centre will host Akhil Jobanputra, an Indian Classical musician and vocalist, at the bandshell. He will be performing two ragas along with a shabad (a hymn or a sacred song) with Mohan Bhide on harmonium and Hriday Buddhdev on tabla.

The first recital of the concert series was held on July 19, with 11-year-old Sejal Jagdeo, a Dare to Shine semi-finalist, headlining, followed by singer-songwriter Scott Jacobs performing.

The Aug. 24 concert will have Jagdeo opening at 5:45 p.m.

Bring your blankets, chairs, food and make a picnic out of it; all while enjoying soothing Indian classical music.
