An investigation into a fatal overdose in December has ended with the arrest of two young Delta men last week.
Elliot Eriq Bains, 19, and Devin Dallas Bains, 21, were arrested when New Westminster police officers and members of the Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at a residence in Delta. Both men are from Delta and were taken into custody following the search, according to a police press release.
The search also resulted in the seizure of an undisclosed amount of cocaine, oxycodone and marijuana with an estimated street value of $6,000. Two vehicles, cash and two prohibited handguns were also seized during the search, according to police.
Both suspects have been charged with numerous drug possession and trafficking and firearm offences.
Both men were released following a court appearance. They are scheduled to return to court on April 30.
Meanwhile, the New Westminster Police Department is reminding residents to report suspected drug activity to police.
“Given the current opioid crisis in our province, we will continue to disrupt the enterprise of drug dealers through targeted enforcement,” spokesperson Sgt. Jeff Scott said in the release. “Additionally, our officers are devoting time to educating the public about the risk of drug use, and to provide support for those who are seeking help.”
