Trustee Lisa Graham wants the board of education to reconsider its decision to move early French immersion out of John Robson Elementary when the new school is built on the former Saint Mary's Hospital site.
The school district had planned to move the program to Lord Kelvin Elementary when a replacement Robson is constructed and a new middle school is built on the former Robson site. Graham believes French immersion should stay at the downtown school.
"I'm listening to the parents, looking at the current facts before us, and it's something that I'd like to revisit with the board," she said.
The local chapter of Canadian Parents for French also wants to keep the program at Robson.
The board decided to push the French immersion program based on 2010 projects, which have changed, Graham said.
"The full day-K (kindergarten), for instance, has dramatically changed enrolment in the district," she said. "(Richard) McBride at the time was going to be easily able to absorb Hume Park (Elementary) - looking at it today, it's not possible."
She was slated to raise the motion at the Tuesday night board of education meeting (after Record deadlines).
