The BCLC is encouraging the public to make donations benefiting the Greater Vancouver Food Bank (GVFB) through an online fundraiser.

Sponsored by the BCLC, the Spread the Local Love campaign supports the GVFB’s mission to provide healthy food for those in need. And from Feb1 to 15, 2021, B.C. residents can double their impact by shopping local.

As part of the campaign, BCLC sponsored a number of items and gift cards from local businesses and made them available on the Spread the Local Love fundraising page. So when you purchase an item, or a silent-auction item is successfully bid on as part of the campaign, the contribution will go directly to one of the 10 participating non-profits across B.C., including the GVFB.

As a result, both local businesses and charitable organizations will receive valuable support during these challenging times.

BCLC's second online fundraiser during COVID-19

“Corporate partners like BCLC are critical to our success,” said Cynthia Boulter, COO, GVFB. “BCLC’s support through fundraising campaigns and volunteer hours has meaningfully contributed to our mission of providing healthy food to those in need. The top three items that the Food Bank purchased this past year are potatoes, milk and apples – this speaks to the high quality of food that our clients receive weekly – all thanks to generous community groups like BCLC,”

This campaign is the second online fundraiser BCLC has hosted since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We know that the pandemic has created a variety of challenging impacts in B.C.,” said Peter ter Weeme, BCLC’s Chief Social Purpose Officer and VP of Player Experience. “With the cancellation of many in-person events due to COVID-19, our team is consistently looking for new, creative ways to support communities. Our goal through the Spread the Local Love campaign is not only to raise funds that will help local charitable organizations continue to serve the communities where they operate but also to showcase local businesses hit hardest by the pandemic.”

In Vancouver, participating businesses include AJ’s Brooklyn Pizza Joint, Bandidas Taqueria, Blushing Boutique, Bosa Foods, Cartems Donuts, Chambar Restaurant, Earnest Ice Cream, Native Shoes, Salt Spring Coffee and Stong’s Market.
