This New West fundraising campaign just got a big boost

Uptown Unplugged live performances, ArtsToGo family workshops and the New West Craft artisan fair are all part of the Arts Council of New Westminster's programming - but are all currently on hold due to COVID-19. The arts council is holding a fundraising campaign to help it continue its work through and beyond the pandemic.

The Arts Council of New Westminster has received a big boost in its ongoing fundraising campaign.

An anonymous supporter has stepped forward with a $10,000 matching donation to help the arts council reach its $35,000 fundraising goal – meaning new donations received between now and July 1 will double in value.

It’s part of the Friends of Arts Council #NewWest campaign that was launched on May 5 for Giving Tuesday.

Donations will help ensure that the arts council can continue its work as an information and resource centre for artistic and cultural projects and carry on with its efforts to make the community a better place to live, work and play.

Money raised will also help the arts council in continuing to host the weekly New Westminster Cultural Roundtables on Thursdays at 3 p.m., as a virtual forum for sharing among artists, artisans, curators, arts administrators and interested community members.

“Personally, I miss hearing music on the streets and in our parks,” said Bob Crockett, the arts council’s president, in a press release. “We don’t know when things will return, but we do know life will be different. Your arts council is monitoring other cities and working with other organizations to bring back our vibrant arts scene.”

The Friends of Arts Council #NewWest campaign culminates on Canada Day, July 1. The $35,000 goal represents $1,000 for each year since the Gallery at Queen’s Park was founded in 1985.
