Residents of one New Westminster cul-de-sac are taking some time to celebrate community.
The residents of Kwantlen Court turned out this past weekend to work on a street-wide art project, courtesy of funds from the Neighbourhood Small Grants program.

“Since the pandemic has started, our street and neighbors have been out in the cul-de-sac more than usual making chalk drawings,” wrote resident Lara Hayward in an email.
(Kwantlen Court residents also hit the Record earlier this spring for their chalk art efforts - check out a story here.)
That got them thinking about ways to elevate that chalk drawing – thus the grant, courtesy Neighbourhood Small Grants New Westminster and the Vancouver Foundation. It allowed them to acquire tempura paint and soft pastels and to paint their sidewalk into white and black sections as a base for each household to contribute their own drawings and paintings.
Hayward notes the pictures are of images that bring residents’ joy, demonstrate their interests and celebrate their cultural differences.
“We truly have some amazing artists on the street, but more importantly the project had everyone out in the street helping each other and building our sense of community,” she wrote.
