Summer isn’t over yet, but TransLink is talking about fall bus service changes that will take effect on Sept. 3.

Included in these changes are increases in the number of buses on more than 20 routes that were identified as being overcrowded – including several that cover New Westminster.

“More than 100 more bus trips with space for over 6,000 boardings per day are being spread out across Metro Vancouver,” said a TransLink news release. “Over 20 routes across the region are receiving improvements thanks to funding from the Mayors’ Council’s 10-Year Vision. Nearly 250,000 annual bus service hours have been added as part of the 10-Year Vision since January, 2017.”

TransLink makes service changes four times a year to adjust for seasonal changes and to deploy new service hours when they become available.

The routes seeing increased service include:

  • 23 Beach/Yaletown/Main Street Station
  • 25 Brentwood Station/UBC (This route was named the second-most crowded in Metro Vancouver.)
  • 43 Joyce Station/UBC
  • 100 22nd Street Station/Marpole Loop
  • 116 Metrotown Station/Edmonds Station
  • 123 New Westminster Station/Brentwood Station
  • 319 Scott Road Station/Newton Exchange
  • 320 Surrey Central Station/Guildford/Fleetwood
  • 337 Fraser Heights/Guildford/Surrey Central Station
  • 402 Two Road/Richmond-Brighouse Station
  • 403 Three Road/Bridgeport Station

TransLink also highlighted one route that impacts SFU students: “145 Production Station/SFU: more consistent scheduling to reduce overcrowding and all-door boarding to speed up service at the SFU tunnel stop.”
