It's hard to believe we're saying goodbye to September already, but here we are.
This week marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (Saturday, Sept. 30), and you can recognize the occasion in New Westminster.
You can also enjoy some jazz, shop at the farmers market, take in a few art shows and attend a council or school board meeting. Check out these highlights for the week ahead:
For weather watchers: Fall has fallen
Well, it looks like Mother Nature may have decided to embrace fall after all. The forecast, as of the writing of this post, shows the week getting off to a downright chilly start, with highs of just 14 C on Monday, 13 C on Tuesday and 12 C on Wednesday — and rain on all three days.
(Memo to self: It may finally be time to brave that lineup and get the kid some new Vessis for the season.)
Remember to bookmark your New West Weatherhood forecast for the latest hyperlocal weather.

For city hall and school board watchers: Council meeting
All you local politics watchers can rejoice: it's a busy week once again.
City council will be busy on Monday, Sept. 25, with a special workshop at 3:30 p.m. to discuss the city's 2023-2026 strategic plan. Then there's a public hearing at 6 p.m. and a council meeting set for 6:30 p.m. Expect a report on the 2023 New Westminster intersection safety study, a review of fees and rates in the 2024 budget, an update to exemptions to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and a couple of motions from city councillors, including one on implementing speed limits for electric motorized scooters and one on "increasing trust and accountability for civic officials" — plus a whole lot more. You can find all the details about attending the meeting, along with an agenda and reports, at the City of New Westminster website.
For school board followers, meanwhile, the first school board meeting of the year is coming on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. The meeting will be hybrid, so you can attend in person at the school district office (811 Ontario St.) or online. You can find the agenda package and a meeting link at the School District 40 website.
