Saturday roadwork: Closure of the Royal Avenue on-ramp and single-lane alternating traffic on Columbia Street
Pattullo Bridge - June 2022 - JG -2
Lane closures are coming to New West on Saturday morning as part of the Pattullo Bridge replacement project.

Motorists will experience some short-term changes around the Pattullo Bridge on Saturday morning.

Fraser Crossing Partners has announced there will be a temporary closure of the Royal Avenue on-ramp and single-lane alternating traffic on Columbia Street on Saturday morning.

“On Saturday, Dec. 2, the Royal Avenue on-ramp will be temporarily closed for approximately two hours starting at 7 a.m.,” said a notice about the closures.

In addition, single-lane alternating traffic will also be in effect on Columbia Street between McBride Boulevard and Elliot Street between 7 a.m. and 12 p.m.

The notices states these closures are required so Fraser Crossing Partners can complete some paving in the area.

During the Royal Avenue on-ramp closure, drivers will be directed to use the Columbia Street loop-ramp via McBride Boulevard. Detour signage will be in place.

“This work is weather dependent and may be rescheduled if required,” said the notice. “Please watch for updates on street signage and traffic message boards.”

When required, traffic control personnel will be on site to direct traffic, pedestrians, and cyclists, said the notice.

“All traffic pattern changes will be well-signed. Drivers may experience temporary delays resulting from the detour and single lane alternating traffic,” said the notice. “We appreciate your patience while this work is underway.”

The $1.377-billion crossing that will replace the Pattullo Bridge will open in 2024.
