Teen summer reading club heats up at library

Even though the weather hasn't cooperated, things are really heating up at the library.

Even though the weather hasn't cooperated, things are really heating up at the library.

We have almost 100 teens in the Teen Summer Reading Club, and we've been giving away prizes every Friday - new books, Save-On-Foods gift cards, and baby Blizzards, compliments of the Dairy Queen.

And you can still enter and win. The 100th person to sign up will win a $25 gift card. The final draw in August is for a $100 gift card. The more you read, the more chances you have to win.

We'd also like to let New Westminster teens know that we've been listening to what you have to say. You can now find the books you love more easily with our new genre stickers.

When browsing the teen bookshelves you'll see stickers on many of the books indicating if they're science fiction, romance, fantasy, mystery, action and adventure or humour.

Teens should also look for our new Teen New Books pamphlet. This list will be produced every two months, showing additions to the teen books by genre.

Use this list to see what we have and place holds on the hottest new releases. Take a look at the back page for some websites that will lead you to more great reads.

If you're feeling lost because you've finished the Mortal Instruments, the Hunger Games and the Wolves of Mercy Falls series, and you're looking for something new and lasting to sink your teeth into (something not vampire), try the Matched trilogy by Allyson Condie. The library has the first book, and the second book, Crossed, will be coming soon. Another dystopian thriller series by Veronica Roth starts with Divergent.

Guys might prefer to try Blank Confession by Pete Hautman or Dark Life by Kat Falls - put your name on the waitlist now.

And don't forget the Ravenous Readers Rate their Reads at the library. You can rate the books you've been reading - out of five stars - and recommend your favourites.
