It appears New Westminster music lovers could not get enough of Taylor Swift this year.

Spotify has unveiled that New West was among Canada's top 20 cities for listenership in 2023.

Taylor Swift, arguably to no one's surprise, was the top most-searched artist by local subscribers, according to the city's "Wrapped" list

This likely stemmed from her widely popular Eras Tour concert, as well as her three-hour movie of the same title.

As well, Swift's announcement on Nov. 2 of three shows coming to BC Place in Vancouver in December 2024 may have also sparked a rise in searches.

New West Swifties were in line with others across Canada as the 33-year-old singer-songwriter was also the most searched artist on Spotify nationally and globally.

"Overall, 2023 was defined by the epic return of major female artists, sonic diversity across the charts, and a global music culture that saw the rise of powerful genres," a release reads.

"Our top lists reflect these trends and the overall expansion of music and podcasts as Spotify continues to grow its user base."

After Swift, New Westminster's most searched artists were Drake, Morgan Wallen, The Weeknd and SZA.

"Cruel Summer," which was featured on Swift's Lover album in 2019 but wasn't declared a single until June 2023, was the fourth most-played song among New West Spotify listeners this year.

The top five were as follows:

  1. "Last Night" — Morgan Wallen
  2. "Flowers" — Miley Cyrus
  3. "Kill Bill" — SZA
  4. "Cruel Summer" — Taylor Swift
  5. "fukumean" — Gunna

Pop music also ruled New West's top-genre list, followed by rap, rock, hip hop and pop rap.

Swift was also the most searched artist in Vancouver and Victoria.

Surrey, the fourth and final B.C. community in Spotify's top 20 Canadian cities data, favoured Drake slightly more than Taylor on its list.
