New Westminster police arrested a suspect wanted on a Canada-wide warrant after a firearm fell out of his pocket on a bus.

A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant was arrested in Queensborough after a witness saw a firearm fall out of his pocket and called police.

A witness called 911 after seeing a firearm fall out of a pocket of someone who had been travelling on the same bus. New Westminster police quickly responded to the area of Howes Street and Ewen Avenue around 12:20 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30.

“The suspect and a second individual exited the bus together. Officers rushed to the area and were able to quickly identify the suspects and arrest them without incident,” said a press release from the New Westminster Police Department.

According to the NWPD, the suspect, who was in possession of a BB gun, was breaching several conditions and was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant. The second individual had a warrant out for his arrest in connection to an unrelated incident.

“We want to commend the complainant on their call to 911,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Justine Thom. “Thanks to this witness remaining calm and making note of the suspect’s appearance and direction of travel, officers were able to quickly locate and arrest these two suspects.”

Anyone who witnessed anything in connection to these events and has information to share with police is asked to call the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411.
