The New Westminster Public Library's Summer Reading Club is looking for readers. Children ages three to 11 can earn a medal and prizes by reading for at least 15 minutes a day for 49 days.

And it's fun, too. Sign-up starts on Monday, June 10 - although early birds can sign up at Sapperton Days on Sunday, June 9.

The kick-off party will be held on Wednesday, June 19 at 3: 30 p.m. with entertainment by ventriloquist Kellie Haines and her friends.

Teens (ages 12 and up) can immerse themselves in the land of the "Undead," which is this year's Teen Reading Club theme. Sign-up also starts June 10 and includes a reading record to keep track of the days that you read for a minimum of 30 minutes. Registration includes book review forms which you can complete for a chance to win weekly prizes.

Kids can read books, magazines, graphic novels, newspapers, anything with the printed word. If you are going on holiday this summer, just come to the library before you leave and sign up. Continue reading while you're away and when you come back you can catch up with stickers and your medal.

In addition to being a fun, free activity to do over the summer, joining the Summer Reading Club allows children to develop literacy skills, something they will use now and many years from now.

For kids going back to school in September, the Summer Reading Club is an excellent way to help maintain and even improve their skills over the summer.

This summer the library is also hosting many games, storytimes, crafts and other free activities for children and teens. For more information, call the library at 604-5274677 or visit www.nwpl.ca.

Children and teens can sign up for the reading clubs at the main library at 716 Sixth Ave. or at the new Queensborough branch, located in the Queensborough Community Centre.
