Actors and directors are dropping into Landmark Cinemas in New Westminster this week to help launch a Ferocious new film.

Actors and directors are dropping into Landmark Cinemas in New Westminster this week to help launch a Ferocious new film.

Kim Coates, an actor known for his role in the TV series Sons of Anarchy, was at the theatre Thursday night as part of the opening of Ferocious.

Co-star Amanda Crew and director Robert Cuffley were set to drop by the local cinema at 7 p.m. on Friday (tonight).

A Landmark Cinemas press release stated Ferocious is a psychological thriller. In the press release, Cuffley noted that the film "had people cringing and jumping at shadows" when it premiered at the World Film Festival in Montréal.

"It was great," he said. "Seeing it with an audience is, in a sense, seeing it for the first time. And it really works nicely. Acting is top notch."

PLANTING PARTY

It's time to party and prepare for the upcoming growing season.

New Westminster Plant a Row - Grow a Row is holding its annual Spring Gardener's Party on Thursday, March 1 at 6 p.m. at St. Thomas More Collegiate. The school is located in Burnaby at 7450 12th Ave.

Coordinator Claude LeDoux will host the event, which features an informative lineup of speakers and topics: Conway Lum (growing honeyberries); Pasquale Porico (mason bees); Sharon Hanna (kale); Mike Lascelle (unexpectedly edible flowers and leaves); and June Hewko (latest tools and gadgets for gardeners). Brian Minter will offer some words of inspiration to gardeners.

Everyone is invited to attend this free event, but donations of nonperish-able foods for the food bank would be greatly appreciated. In addition to the presentations, the Spring Gardeners Party includes coffee, tea, treats, as well as giveaways from West Coast Seeds, Harbour Publishing, Brian Minter, Lee Valley, Plant a Row - Grow a Row and B.C.

Home and Garden magazine.

"Where else could you hear this lineup of speakers for the price of a few cans of food?" states the media release. "Join your friends and neighbours for a great evening and start planning your garden now. Why not plant a couple of rows of peas this weekend - one for your family and one for a family in need?"

The program, which is launching its 14th season in New Westminster, encourages gardeners to plant extra produce that can be donated to the New Westminster Food Bank to help local families to put healthy, fresh food on their tables.
