More frequent peak weekday service is coming to two New West bus routes as of April 15 - including the 103.

More frequent service is coming to two bus routes in New West as part of TransLink’s spring service changes.

TransLink has announced a number of changes for bus routes across the region as part of its spring service changes, beginning April 15. This includes reintroducing seasonal service on 13 bus routes, providing larger (60-foot articulated) buses on some of its busiest routes, and reallocating service on 17 bus routes to address overcrowding.

“Due to funding limitations, TransLink cannot add service to the overall transit system, despite growing demand on multiple routes in the region,” said a TransLink news release. “TransLink is reallocating service where possible to provide some relief to overcrowding. The 10-Year Access for Everyone plan is essential to combat this overcrowding, but the plan remains unfunded.”

In New West, two routes will see more frequent service:

  • 102 New Westminster Station/Victoria Hill – wait times will be shorted by three minutes on weekday mornings and afternoons. Instead of arriving every 15 minutes Monday to Friday, buses will come every 12 minutes from 7 to 9 a.m. and from 4 to 7 p.m.
  • 103 New Westminster Station/Quayside – wait times will be shorted by three minutes on weekday mornings and afternoons. Instead of arriving every 15 minutes Monday to Friday, buses will come every 12 minutes from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.

“Service will be reallocated on 17 bus routes to address overcrowding. As a result, other routes will have service increases at busier times of the day, and reductions during periods of lower demand,” said the news release. “Over half of the routes receiving service increases through reallocations are located south of the Fraser River — one of the region’s fastest growing areas for transit ridership.”

According to TransLink, transit service changes occur every January, April, June, and September, and are based on seasonal patterns and customer demand.

TransLink is also adjusting service on 22 routes to address overcrowding and to provide service where it’s needed most.

In New West, the 100 22nd St Station/Marpole Loop schedule is being adjusted. All of the changes can be found online.

Starting April 15, TransLink is also reintroducing seasonal service to outdoor destinations, including Stanley Park, English Bay, Grouse Mountain, White Pine Beach and Buntzen Lake. It will also be providing more connections to BC Ferries.
