The City of New Westminster is hoping to clarify the rules for outdoor storage and storage of shipping containers in industrial zones.

Council has given two readings to a zoning amendment bylaw regarding shipping containers.

A staff report states that the amendment is in response to a "proliferation" of shipping

containers used for storage on residential and commercial sites.

Mayor Wayne Wright said the community is "quite anxious" to see what the city is going to do about this issue.

A public hearing about the proposed amendments will be held on Monday, Sept. 30 at 6 p.m. in council chambers.
