The Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation hosted its sixth annual Shine Gala Thursday and raised $280,000 for the hospital.

The Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation hosted its sixth annual Shine Gala Thursday and raised $280,000 for the hospital.

Hosted at the Vancouver Convention Centre, more than 400 guests turned out for the event - including several patients and hospital staff members who were there to share their experiences.

"It is amazing to see what we can accomplish together," said Adrienne Bakker, the foundation's president and CEO, in a press release.

Health Minister Margaret McDiarmid also attended the event. A former patient herself, McDiarmid spoke to guests about the province's "commitment to the redevelopment of Royal Columbian Hospital and prioritized the rebuild of the ailing Sherbrooke building," which is home to patients of mental health and substance use services.
