All aboard!

Local seniors are invited to ride The Native paddlewheeler on the Fraser River Aug. 19.

Organized by the Sapperton Old Age Pensioners Association, the lunchtime cruise promises to be something spectacular.

"Many people have not been on the river for a long time. Some of the people on this cruise will reflect on what it was like when they lived there 50 or 60 years ago," said director Vic Leach.

The tour costs $32 per person and is scheduled to leave at 11:30 a.m. from the pier behind the Inn at the Quay. Former city councillor Calvin Donnelly will be on hand to sing a song or two.

Leach said the cruise also gives the association a chance to educate the community about the services at the group's hall on Keary Street.

"We can accommodate up to 300 people, with an upper and lower level. There's dancing every Friday night," he added.

Those interested in the two-and-a-half hour boat ride must reserve a seat by Aug. 14 and call 604-522-0280 to register.
