Resources at the New Westminster Public Library in print and online can help you understand laws in British Columbia.
The reference department has free legal handouts on a variety of topics, including wills in British Columbia, being an executor, and separation and divorce.
These handouts are written in clear, easy-to-understand language and are produced by knowledgeable organizations like the People's Law School and the Legal Services Society. We keep a number of copies on hand so you can read them at your convenience.
We also have a variety of general legal reference books, including Black's Law Dictionary and The Dictionary of Canadian Law. We have legal telephone directories and can connect you with local legal referral services.
If you have questions about family law, Malcolm Kronby's Canadian Family Law is a good starting point.
Writing Your Will by Gayla Reid may provide some needed answers and is in several languages. Probate Guide for British Columbia can help you manage the process surrounding probating a will.
We have duplicate copies of some of these publications in the circulating collection, so please ask a librarian if you see something you'd like to borrow.

One excellent resource is www.clicklaw.ca, which is organized by type of legal question. If you are looking for online legal information in languages other than English, try the Multilingual Legal Website (www.multilingolegal.ca) powered by MOSAIC.
For more family law information, the Legal Services Society's Family Law in B.C. website at www.familylaw.lss.bc.ca provides focused information, as well as links to relevant legal forms. Much of their information is also translated into other languages.
