The New Westminster Police Department's street crime unit spent Wednesday night combing through the contents of an apartment in the city's downtown core.
The unit - with help from the Lower Mainland District emergency response team - executed a search warrant in the 200-block of Carnarvon St. at about 7:20 p.m. on July 31.
According to a media release, the two units entered a ground floor apartment in the Carnarvon building and found everything from a sawed-off rifle, a hand gun, several replica firearms, hunting knives to pepper spray and a compound hunting bow. Officers also discovered more than $2,000 in cash and "a small quantity" of drugs they believed to be methamphetamine and marijuana.
"This is a great example of this department being responsive to the needs of the community," said Deputy Chief Laurin Stenerson. "When this residence came to our attention, it became one of the top priorities of our Street Crime Unit - both to stop the criminal behavior that was occurring there and ensure the safety of the citizens in the area."
While searching the apartment, officers also recovered items they believe to have been stolen, including jewelry and power tools, according to the release.
New Westminster residents Bradley Grant Cooper, 39, and 46-year-old Kathleen Crooks - who, according to police, were living the Carnarvon Street apartment - were arrested on scene and taken into custody. They are facing numerous firearms charges, and police expect more charges to be laid as the investigation continues.
