The New Westminster Salmonbellies slipped to 4-4 last week following a 13-9 overtime loss to the Langley Thunder in B.C. Junior Lacrosse League play on May 23.

With the win, the 5-1 junior A Thunder remained in second place in the weekly Subway national rankings.

Buoyed by the presence of fourth-year junior A star Reegan Comeault's first game in the lineup this season, a number of Langley's up-and-comers also played key roles in the win.

Comeault garnered four points in the win, including two goals on the power play.

Call-up Johnny Pearson, who currently leads his intermediate A team with 15 goals in five games, rippled the twine four times, including the go-ahead 9-8 tally in the third period and two more in OT.

Second-years Brett Dobray and Brendan Mykle-Winkler also added six and four points, respectively, for the Thunder.

Dobray collected his third hat trick of the season, tying the score 8-8 midway through the final frame with his third goal of the game.

Mykle-Winkler had a pair of goals - one coming late in extra time.

New West's Frank Scigliano made 36 stops in regulation time, but was beaten four times on six shots in the 10-minute overtime.

At the other end of the arena, Spencer England, a former Salmonbellie back-up, stopped 42 New West shots on goal, including all 11 in the extra time.

Jeremy Bosher led the junior 'Bellies in scoring with a goal and four helpers.

Josh Byrne and Jimmy McBride, who sent the game into OT with his second of the game at 19: 32 of the third period, both had two goals and a single assist.

New Westminster trailed 6-5 heading into the final period, but Chris Nasato knotted the score minutes into the third, before Byrne and Anthony Malcom tallied 32 seconds apart to give the visitors a momen-tay 8-7 advantage.

With the loss, New West slipped to fifth place in the eight-team loop.

The two teams played again at Queen's Park Arena on Tuesday (after The Record deadlines).
