New Westminster police have arrested a man they say is responsible for two robberies on Friday, Nov. 11.

Police responded to a report of a robbery at a small market in the 700-block of Columbia Street just before 4 p.m.

An officer near the scene spotted a man who matched the police dispatch's description of the suspect running towards Eighth Street and pursued.

The suspect ran up the escalator to the New Westminster SkyTrain station and the officer followed on foot.

After catching up, the officer was able to arrest the suspect without incident, according to a press release from Sgt. Gary Weishaar.

Weishaar said police then discovered that the suspect was involved in a separate robbery at a coffee shop in the 700-block of Carnarvon Street just minutes earlier.

Police say the man had made threats towards the robbery victims but no one was hurt.

The accused is a 28-year-old New Westminster resident. Police are recommending two charges of robbery.
