The Royal City Record was well represented at the B.C. and Yukon Community Newspaper Association awards gala on Saturday night.

The Record received bronze for overall excellence in its circulation category. The newspaper excellence awards look at a variety of categories to rate a publication, including front page, community news, editorials, sports, photography, arts and entertainment, features, production quality, advertising content and design, and classified advertising.

As well, reporter Christina Myers received a silver in the category of business writing, for a feature about a New Westminster-based company, Blue Bear Aware, that makes products for children with allergies.

Myers has been with the Burnaby NOW and the Royal City Record since 2003.

The annual Ma Murray awards recognize the efforts of community newspapers from around B.C. and the Yukon. Award categories include a number of writing categories, ad design, community service, photography, editorial writing, overall excellence and more.

The association has 125 member publications across the province

The dinner and awards ceremony was held April 14 at the theatre at River Rock Casino, with Global BC journalist Jill Krop and comedian Dan Quinn hosting as emcees.
