The Royal City Record got a nod from the national community journalism organization recently.

The Record took home a Blue Ribbon award from the annual Canadian Community Newspaper Association's award gala last week, in the General Excellence (circulation 12,500 to 24,999) category.

Only sixteen papers across the country garnered Blue Ribbons in that circulation, eight of them - including The Record - in B.C.

The Canadian Community Newspaper Association has about 800 member papers across the country.

The Record recently took home a bronze for overall excellence from the B.C. and Yukon Community Newspaper awards, known as the Ma Murray awards.

It's not the first time the paper has received the recognitions: the Record received a Blue Ribbon from the CCNA in 2011, 2008, 2006 and 2005, and a Ma Murray for overall excellence in 2005 and 2004.

The Record's sister paper garnered a pair of awards at the gala as well - Burnaby NOW and Record reporter Christina Myers won a silver award for history writing, and the NOW took home a silver in the community service category.

Record and NOW publisher Brad Alden attended the awards ceremony in Toronto.
