The rainbow flag is now “proudly flying” at Douglas College in New Westminster, and it will be through the full month.
The school and its student union held a small event Thursday, Aug. 1 to mark the occasion, and the college will be flying the Pride flag at both its New West and Coquitlam campuses.
“Douglas College embraces diversity and works at building an inclusive and welcoming campus community. … Internally, we are actively removing gender language from policy and procedures, while at the same time creating safer spaces with gender neutral and barrier-free washrooms,” said Duane Seibel, director of student affairs and services at the college, in a statement.
“We also work closely with the Douglas Students’ Union Pride representative and collective, as well as the employee Pride representatives to raise awareness and build supports for our campus community.”

"These rights are fragile, the rights that so many of us have fought for. We must continue to be vigilant to ensure these rights are protected by law and in our society."
