The New Westminster police are warning the public about a man they believe is impersonating a Shaw Cable worker and trying to get into apartment buildings in the Park Row area near Queen's Park.
Police attended to an incident on Sunday afternoon, just after 12: 30 p.m., when someone complained that a man had buzzed his apartment stating that he was from Shaw Cable and needed to be let in.
The complainant let the man into the building and the man stated that he needed access to the cable box to do some work before a supposed upgrade on Tuesday.
When asked for identification from Shaw Cable, he was unable to provide any proof of employment other than his jacket, which had Shaw Cable on the front.
The resident then asked if the man had a contact name for someone in the building or if he could provide a work order. The man could not provide any identification or work order, so the resident asked him to leave.
The resident then noticed that when the man left, he did not get into a Shaw vehicle, and continued eastbound on foot towards Queen's Park.
New Westminster police were unsuccessful in locating the man and when they spoke to a Shaw Cable representative, police discovered there was no Shaw maintenance scheduled at that location for Sunday.
Shaw Cable advised that if a legitimate Shaw employee was to attend, he would come with his own key to the building, as well as his own key to the cable room.
Police are now looking for a Caucasian man in his mid-20s, approximately 510 tall with a short scruffy beard and wearing a grey Shaw Cable jacket and a tool belt around his waist.
