New Westminster police are looking for the public's help after a stabbing downtown early Saturday morning.

According to a press release from Staff Sgt. Dave Jansen, police were attending a large gathering in the area of Columbia Street and Church Street when they were alerted to the stabbing.

They found a 25-year-old Vancouver man with non-life-threatening injuries at the scene.

Police searched the area and called in their Air One helicopter and nearby RCMP canine unit, but the search turned up no suspects.

Detectives from the major crimes and forensic units are interviewing witnesses and examining the crime scene, but police say they could use some help from the public.

Anyone who may have been in the area and witnessed the altercation, or anyone who may have any information, is asked to call Det. Shari Gulliver at 604-525-5411.
