For the fourth time in four days, police investigated a suspicious package left at a SkyTrain station.
On Monday night, the New Westminster SkyTrain station was closed for several hours as police looked into a pipe covered with white powder that an attendant had noticed around 9:30 p.m.
The RCMP bomb squad removed the item using a robot and while the station was closed for approximately two hours, SkyTrain cars still passed through the New Westminster station without stopping. The station was evacuated as police analyzed the package, which was found on the second floor of the three-floor building.
SkyTrain passengers were able to ride a bus bridge between Columbia and 22nd Street stations while the police investigated.
The bomb scare comes only days after police investigated similar incidents in Surrey, Burnaby and Vancouver.
The most high profile incident occurred in Surrey on Friday, where police had to deal with an explosive device found on the SkyTrain guideway.
Later that night, a station attendant at Metrotown Station in Burnaby raised an alarm over a piece of drainage pipe, which turned out to be harmless.
And in Vancouver, at the Main Street SkyTrain station, a purse on the tracks also aroused police interest and caused a short station closure as police looked into the matter.
