New Westminster police are warning the public to be extra cautious while walking alone at night after an alleged assault this past weekend.

At about 2 a.m. on Sunday, a woman, 48, was walking in the 200-block of Queens Avenue when she was approached by an unknown man, according to a media release.

The man “appeared out of some bushes” and according to police told the woman to “come here you” in an aggressive manner. The man then grabbed the woman, throwing her to the ground.

According to the release, the woman began screaming and scared the suspect, who then fled east on foot down Queens Avenue.

New Westminster police attended the scene but were unable to find the suspect. The woman described the man as Caucasian, 25 to 40 years old, 5’11” to 6’1” tall with a lean build. He is clean-shaven and has no distinct facial features and was wearing a form-fitting black t-shirt with red and white writing, blue jeans with a belt and a black ball cap at the time of the alleged assault, according to the release.
