There's plenty to do in New Westminster on this last long weekend before the Christmas season. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. This Nov. 9 to 11 weekend, we have:

1 Take a stroll down memory lane and attend the New Westminster Symphony Orchestra's special Remembrance Day concert.

The concert, which takes place on Sunday, Nov. 11 at Massey Theatre at 2 p.m., includes a salute to the Big Bands from the 1940s.

Local arts promoter Tony Antonias says concertgoers are promised an afternoon of great music from the likes of Count Basie and his orchestra, Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey and Benny Goodman. The classical repertoire includes Nimrod from Elgar's Enigma Variations, Glazunov's Autumn from the Seasons, Beer Barrel Polka, Sleigh Ride, Colonel Bogey March, Tico Tico and more. Admission is by donation. Massey Theatre is located at 735 Eighth Ave.

2 Celebrate Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee, with the new exhibit at the New Westminster Museum and Archives. From Paper to Diamond: The 60 Year Reign of Queen Elizabeth II runs until Nov. 24.

The exhibit shows off some of the New Westminster Museum and Archives' British Royals memorabilia, as well as treasures from local collectors.

The New Westminster Museum and Archives is located at 302 Royal Ave. and is open Wednesday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

Admission is by donation.

3 Honour those who have served or given their lives at the City of New Westminsters's Remembrance Day cere-

mony.

The ceremony takes place at 10 a.m. (doors close at 9: 45 p.m.) at the Royal Westminster Regiment Armoury at 530 Queens Ave.

Overflow seating will be available across the street at Queens Avenue United Church, where the public will be able to watch and hear the ceremony that features a memorial address by Jack McGee.

After the ceremony, there will be a parade to the cenotaph at the front of city hall, where two minutes of silence will be observed at 11 a.m.

A wreath-laying ceremony and march-past on Royal Avenue will follow.

4 Check out one of the plays by Canadian Tomson Highway's The Rez Sisters, a rowdy tale of seven women in a fictional Cree-Ojibwa reserve. The plays are taking place at the Douglas College Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre until Nov. 17.

Tickets are $12 for students and $8 for seniors. For tickets and information go to http: // tickets.masseytheatre.com.

5 Learn to make soup at River Market, which has declared November as soup and stew month. The market is offering a soup demonstration on Sunday, Nov. 11 from 2 to 4 p.m. in its first floor food lab. During this demonstration, you'll learn how to make your own yummy soups.

River Market is located at 810 Quayside Dr.
