We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend.
1 Enjoy some old-fashioned picnic games and some summer fun at Summerfest 2012. The celebration is being held at Grimston Park on Saturday, July 14 from 2 p.m. until midnight. Kids will enjoy splashing in the wading pool (which is open until 8 p.m. on this day only) and everyone will enjoy listening to live music, dining on food from a number of vendors (or a picnic from home). Events will get underway at 3 p.m. At 9: 30 p.m., people are invited to gather on the grassy area and enjoy a screening of The Princess Bride.
2 Help Pacific Breeze Winery celebrate its fifth anniversary of being in business in New Westminster. The winery, located at 320 Stewardson Way, is having an open house on Saturday, July 14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will be giving guests a chance to taste its new summer release wine. For more information, visit www.pacificbreezewinery.com or call 604-522-2228.
3 Learn a bit about Sapperton's past (and enjoy a nice summer walk) by attending A Sense of History Research Services July 15 Sapperton tour. The walk includes a look at the history of East Columbia Street, Royal Columbian Hospital, Sapperton Park, a movie theatre - and more. It's free, takes about oneand-half to two hours and runs rain or shine. The tour gets underway at Sapperton Park (the corner of East Columbia and Sherbrooke streets) at 3 p.m.
4 Drop by Queen's Park and listen to the musical offerings of the Royal City Concert Band. The band will take to the stage at the Queen's Park bandshell (weather permitting) on Sunday, July 15 at 2 p.m.
5 Improve your financial literacy at a workshop taking place at the New Westminster Public Library on Saturday, July 14 from 10 a.m. to noon.
Learn how to manage your finances and become more financially independent at this workshop, which gives an overview of the Canadian financial system, investment options and how to do an efficient and effective budget. For more information or to register, call SUCCESS at 604-430-1899 extension 110.
