350 students in grades 2 through 5 turned out in the rain at Fraser Cemetery for a ceremony Nov. 4

More than 350 students from two New Westminster schools turned out in the pouring rain at Fraser Cemetery to pay tribute to fallen soldiers today (Nov. 4).

The students, in grades 2 through 5, were part of the annual No Stone Left Alone project. No Stone Left Alone is an educational initiative that brings youth from across Canada out to recognize the sacrifices of Canada’s military men and women – through the simple act of placing poppies on their gravestones.

The students from Skwo:wech and École Herbert Spencer elementary schools were joined by young adults from the Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps 2316, 513 Air Cadet Squadron, Fraser Navy Cadet Corps, Hyack Festival Ambassadors and representatives from various community groups, accompanied by Canadian Armed Forces members of the Royal Westminster Regiment and Royal Canadian Legion.

Together they placed more than 450 poppies in the military section of the cemetery.

Photographer Cornelia Naylor joined them to capture some images. Here’s what she found.
