Firefighters are battling a stubborn blaze that broke out in a commercial building in New Westminster Sunday.
The fire started Sunday afternoon at a small strip mall in the 400-block of 8th Street.
Billowing smoke from the three-alarm fire could be seen as far as Burnaby and across the Patullo Bridge in Surrey.
Crews helped some residents leave a three-storey apartment next door.
The fire closed down 8th Street between 4th Avenue and St. Andrews Street. Ash Street was also closed between 4th Avenue and 5th Avenue, as well as 4th Avenue between 8th street and 7th street.
